Book Club - Bridge Class (6th grade and advanced 5th graders)
This class is for students who enjoy reading and want to get practice with skills that will be needed for the middle/highschool pod. We will be reading historical fiction books. The semester will start out with A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. We will begin reading this book over Christmas break before co-op starts. Then we will read Saving Zasha by Randi Barrow. Each student will research a type of working dog and create a poster board to share with the class. We will practice note taking skills while listening to presentations. Our last book, Listening for Lions by Gloria Whelan, will include projects where we can practice working in small groups.
For each book there will be both weekly homework and monthly homework. We will spend a little bit of time in our first class discussing how we can keep track of and work on both assignments each week. Students in this class will be subject to the CCHC academic agreement and parents may need to help reinforce some of these new responsibilities at home.
